The Latest Azure HPC-optimized VMs are Now Generally Available on the Rescale Platform

Rescale is pleased to announce the general availability of Azure HB (Rescale Amber) and HC (Rescale Carbon), as well as early access availability of HBv2 (Rescale Amber v2) virtual machines (VMs) across different global regions.
The H-series virtual machines are the latest HPC offerings on Azure. HBv2 VMs feature 120 AMD EPYC™ 7002-series CPU cores, 480 GB of RAM, 480 MB of L3 cache, and no simultaneous multithreading (SMT). HBv2 virtual machines provide up to 350 GB/sec of memory bandwidth. HB-series VMs offer 60-core AMD EPYC processors, optimized for running applications with high memory bandwidth requirements, such as explicit finite element analysis, fluid dynamics, and weather modeling. The HC-series VMs have 44-core Intel Xeon Skylake processors and are optimized for applications requiring intensive CPU calculations, like molecular dynamics and implicit finite element analysis. HB and HC VMs feature 100 Gb/s EDR InfiniBand and support the latest MPI types and versions.
We are also announcing the general availability of spot instances of Azure HB and HC virtual machines. Azure Spot VMs, combined with Rescale’s HPC job orchestration and automated checkpoint restarts, help mitigate preemption risks.
