Workspace Folders

What are Workspace Folders?

Managing dozens or hundreds of simulation jobs across multiple projects and teams gets messy fast. Workspace Folders lets you organize your simulations the way you think about your work, by product line, component, physics type, design phase, or whatever structure makes sense for your team.

Why use folders?

Find simulations faster
Browse your folder structure to locate jobs, even when you can’t remember the exact name or which tags you used.

Mirror your workflow
Organize simulations around programs (Vehicle Platform 2026), components (Battery Thermal), or objectives (Weight Reduction Initiative)—whatever matches how your team actually works.

Collaborate with clarity
Share entire folder structures with your team. Everyone sees the same organization and can contribute simulations to the right place.

Getting Started

Workspace Folders are organized into three main areas:

Home

Your private workspace. Only you can see folders and simulations here unless you explicitly share them with teammates.

Shared with me

Folders that colleagues have shared with you. You’ll have either viewing or editing access depending on their permission settings.

Workspace

The team shared area. All workspace members can access and contribute to folders here.Home

When you select any folder, the main panel shows three tabs:

  • Overview: All jobs and workstations in this folder at a glance
  • Jobs: Just the batch simulation jobs
  • Workstations: Just the interactive workstations

Creating Your First Folder

  1. In the folder tree, select where you want the new folder (Home, Workspace, or inside an existing folder)
  2. Click Add Folder
  3. Enter a descriptive name
  4. Click Create Folder

Naming tip: Use clear, searchable names. “CFD_V2026_Underhood” beats “New Folder 3.”

Adding Simulations to Folders

Create new simulations directly in a folder

  1. Navigate to your target folder
  2. Select the Jobs or Workstations tab
  3. Click Add Job or Add Workstation

The simulation will automatically be created in this folder. This also works when duplicating existing jobs.

Move existing simulations into folders

Drag one or more simulations from the main panel into any destination folder in the tree. Use checkboxes to select multiple simulations at once.

Sharing Folders

Share with your entire workspace

Drag and drop any folder from your Home area into the Workspace shared area. All workspace members immediately gain full access.

Share with specific people or groups

  1. Hover over the folder you want to share
  2. Click the three-dot menu
  3. Select Share folder
  1. In the sharing modal, search for users or groups
  2. Set their permission level:
    • Viewer: Can see all contents but cannot create, modify, or delete anything
    • Editor: Full access to create, modify, and delete contents
  3. Click Update

Shared folders appear in recipients’ Shared with me area.

Important: You can only share folders you own or have Editor access to.

Managing Folders

Moving folders

Drag and drop a folder to a new location in the folder tree. You’ll be asked to confirm the move.

Renaming folders

  1. Hover over the folder
  2. Click the three-dot menu and select the pencil icon
  3. Enter the new name and click Update

Deleting a folder

  1. Hover over the folder
  2. Click the three-dot menu and select the trash icon
  3. Confirm the deletion

Note: Folders must be completely empty before you can delete them. Move or delete all simulations and subfolders first.

Folder Usage Statistics

The folder Overview tab can display usage statistics, including compute cost, core hours, and storage consumed by jobs within that folder.

Admin configuration

This feature is controlled by a workspace admin setting. To enable:

  1. Navigate to Workspace Admin > Policies > Platform Settings > General Settings
  2. Enable the “Allow non-admin members to view usage stats in the Folder Overview” toggle

When enabled, non-admin members will see compute cost, core hours, and storage usage for each folder in the Overview tab. When disabled (the default), only workspace admins can see this information.

Note: This setting is off by default for all workspaces.

Common Questions

Can I have two folders with the same name?

Not in the same parent folder. Folder names are case-insensitive, so “CFD_Analysis” and “cfd_analysis” are considered duplicates.

Can I move a folder from Workspace back to Home?

Only if every simulation in that folder (and its subfolders) belongs to you. This prevents accidentally removing team simulations from the shared workspace.

Can I move a folder into another location that already has a folder with that name?

No, you’ll need to rename one of the folders first.

What happens when I share a folder?

The recipient gains access to:

  • The folder itself
  • All subfolders inside it
  • All jobs and workstations inside it and any subfolders

Permissions cascade down the entire folder hierarchy.
