Rescale Studies

Studies Background

We all know how Rescale is organized today.

  • You have a flat list of jobs that may contain some basic organization using tags and project
  • You might even be quite advanced, using Custom Fields or Robust Job names to enrich your jobs with context and data.

This makes sense when you’re just using Rescale to run jobs. But we know that your goal isn’t to run jobs, your goal is to build a product. And to do that, you’re trying to find answers to questions.

Studies is a a flexible higher-order construct that makes it easy to:

  1. Group jobs together
  2. Group jobs together around a common goal

This allows you to shift from IT concerns (did a job run?) to Engineering concerns (what was the answer to the question about building a product?)

How to Use Studies

1. Get access to Rescale Data from Rescale

2. Navigate to Rescale Platform (or R&D Cloud) from the Rescale dropdown

3. You’ll be dropped into Rescale Data and see a list of Projects.

4. As a Rescale Admin, you will be able to see all Projects, otherwise, you will have to be given access to a Project from within the Workspace Administration > Projects > Collaborating Groups. We recommend Autosharing jobs with these collaborating groups in order to have a shared set of data between members, which will make Studies more useful

5. If this is your first time in Rescale Data, you will not have any Studies created. To add a Study, click “(+) Add Study”

6. Once you’ve created a Study, you can add a name, description, and even objectives (through a table).

7. Jobs and Workstations can be added to or created from within a Study to have a filtered list of engineering activities in a centralized place. Jobs and Workstations created from within the Study will automatically be added to the Project and Study and jobs created outside can be retroactively added.

8. You will find all engineering activities in the “Jobs”, “Workstations”, or “Files” tab from within a Study.
