CFD, FEA, and Other Automotive Simulation Opportunities
Automakers, OEMs, and other engineering companies that make up the complex automotive supply chains use computational techniques to build safer and more efficient vehicles. Consumer cars and trucks along with enterprise fleet vehicles each have their own specific requirements.
First and foremost, all vehicles must meet specific safety standards to prevent damage to occupants, pedestrians, and infrastructure. To ensure compliance with local requirements and under a variety of scenarios, automotive engineers use extensive crash simulations which include multiphysics models like finite element analysis (FEA) to understand how the various parts of the car and occupants react to impact.
Secondarily, each vehicle class has its own requirements for performance, for example aerodynamics for racing vehicles. For aerodynamics and other scenarios like engine combustion efficiency, engineers often use computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to optimize vehicle performance. In both FEA and CFD simulations which are highly-coupled workloads, meaning there is a high degree of model complexity and fidelity requirements and thus high demand for computational resources. Rescale automates configuring the best architectures based on each application or workload to accelerate solve times, analyze high fidelity meshes, and even run many simulations in parallel with cloud flexibility.
