Commitment Plans for Reduced Compute Costs

Overview

Rescale now offers Commitment Plans, a prepaid compute option that reduces per-workload costs for organizations with predictable simulation workloads. Commit a portion of your compute spend at a discounted rate and let the platform apply savings automatically.

  • Coretype Plan is available today. Commit to fixed cores on a specific coretype for up to 60% savings vs On-Demand Priority rates (full negation on committed cores).
  • Rescale Savings Plan is coming soon. A flexible, dollar-based commitment that covers multiple coretypes and regions under a single plan.

Highlights

Automatic Savings. No Workflow Changes.

Commitment Plans use invisible orchestration. Your team continues to submit workloads as On-Demand Priority. The platform automatically applies prepaid benefits to eligible workloads — no manual selection required.

  • Savings are applied retroactively via hourly billing reconciliation
  • No additional steps at job setup – users work exactly as they do today
  • Savings appear in Billing Summary as an “Applied Commitment” negation

Burst Policies: Control Cost vs. Throughput

Admins can configure a burst policy per commitment to determine what happens when committed capacity is reached. Three modes available:

  • Immediate: workloads launch instantly at On-Demand Priority rates
  • Balanced: workloads wait a configurable period (30 min – 6 hours) for commitment capacity, then launch at On-Demand Priority rates
  • Savings Required: workloads wait up to 24 hours for commitment capacity; cancelled automatically if unavailable

⚠️ Queue policy applies to job launches only. HPS always launches immediately. Workstation resumes are unaffected.

Utilization Dashboard

A dedicated dashboard showing how your commitment is being consumed over time. Key capabilities include:

  • Utilization rate (%), actual consumption vs. commitment ceiling
  • Hourly and daily views of cores in use over time
  • Filter by month and by specific commitment

Workspace Scope

Commitments can be applied to all workspaces in your organization or restricted to a specific set of workspaces — giving admins granular control over which teams benefit from prepaid capacity.

Why This Matters

  • Reduce compute costs 10–35%, depending on your commitment level — without changing how your team submits jobs.
  • Direct control over cost vs. speed with the queue policy — a capability not available in CSP-native tools or traditional schedulers.
  • Visibility into commitment ROI with the utilization dashboard — see exactly how prepaid capacity is being consumed.
  • No operational overhead for end users — savings are applied automatically. Admins configure once; users benefit immediately.

No action required from users. If your organization has an active Commitment Plan, look for the “Commitment Plan” badge during job setup — it indicates that committed capacity is available for your workload.
