Enhanced Storage Visibility: Dynamic Workload Usage & CFS Admin Insights

Overview

Effective data management requires accurate visibility into where and how storage is being used. We are introducing two significant enhancements to help users and administrators better monitor their storage footprint:

  • First, storage metrics for individual Jobs and Workstations now update dynamically to reflect file deletions, ensuring you always see the current size rather than a static snapshot.
  • Second, Workspace Administrators now have access to a dedicated dashboard to monitor Cloud File System (CFS) usage by user, enabling better resource allocation and management.

Highlights

1. Dynamic Job & Workstation Storage Reporting

What is it? Previously, the storage size displayed for a Job or Workstation was calculated only upon completion and never changed, even if files were deleted. With this update, storage metrics now refresh within an hour after any file deletion occurs.

Key capabilities:

  • Real-Time Accuracy: Storage numbers on the Job List page (Storage column) and in the My Jobs folder within Rescale Files now reflect the actual current size of the job.
  • Immediate Feedback: Users deleting large output files to save costs will see those changes reflected in the platform interface shortly after the action.

⚠️ Note: This dynamic updating applies to any Job or Workstation updated after December 1, 2025. Older jobs that have not been modified since that date will continue to show their original storage snapshot.

2. Cloud filesystem Usage Dashboard

What is it? For workspaces utilizing Cloud File Systems (CFS), Workspace Administrators now have a dedicated view to analyze storage consumption at the user level.

Cloud Filesystem Usage Dashboard

Key capabilities:

  • Granular Visibility: Admins can view exactly how much CFS storage each specific user is consuming.
  • Proactive Management: Quickly identify high-utilization users to manage quotas or encourage cleanup before limits are reached.

Why This Matters

  • Usage Transparency: Users can immediately verify that their cleanup efforts (deleting unneeded files) are successful and reflected in the system.
  • Admin Oversight: Administrators transition from high-level estimates to data-driven management of their CFS resources, thereby preventing unexpected overages.

Get Started

  • For Users: To view your updated storage metrics, navigate to your Jobs or Workstation List or the Rescale Files > My Jobs folder. If you delete files from a job, check back in approximately one hour to see the updated size.
  • For Workspace Admins: To view the new CFS metrics, navigate to Activity > Cloud Filesystems in the administration portal.
