Introducing Workspace Folders for Improved Organization & Sharing

Introduction

We are excited to introduce Workspace Folders, a new feature designed to transform how you organize and manage your simulations on Rescale. As teams run dozens or hundreds of jobs across multiple projects, keeping track of them can be challenging. Folders allow you to structure your simulations in a way that mirrors your actual workflow—whether by product line, component, physics type, or design phase—bringing clarity and efficiency to your engineering data.

Highlights

  • What is it? Workspace Folders provides a hierarchical file system for your simulations. It is organized into three main areas:
    • Home: Your private workspace for personal folders and simulations.
    • Shared with me: Folders that colleagues have explicitly shared with you.
    • Workspace: A team-wide shared area where all members can access and contribute.
  • Why use it?
    • Find simulations faster: Browse a logical folder structure to locate jobs quickly, even if you can’t recall exact names or tags.
    • Mirror your workflow: Create a structure that matches your engineering reality, organizing work around specific programs, components, or objectives.
    • Collaborate with clarity: Share entire folder structures with your team or specific individuals. This ensures everyone is working from the same organizational structure and contributes work to the correct location.
  • How is it used?
    • Organization: You can create nested folders and move existing simulations into them using simple drag-and-drop actions.
    • Creation: New simulations (Jobs or Workstations) can be created directly inside specific folders.
    • Sharing: You can share folders with the entire workspace by moving them to the “Workspace” area, or share with specific users and groups with granular “Viewer” or “Editor” permissions.

Get Started

  • Create a Folder: Navigate to the folder tree in your interface, select a location (Home or Workspace), click Add Folder, and enter a name.
  • Organize Jobs: Drag one or more existing simulations from your main panel into a destination folder.
  • Share: Hover over a folder, click the three-dot menu, select Share folder, and choose the users or groups you wish to collaborate with.
